Howdy.. Please check out the great note from Shannon Pennington on this Blog. He is a Firefighter Veteran suffering with PTSD for many years and doing great things to get this issue recognized within the Firefighter world. CJL
Great response thus far from as far away as Okinawa! Warrior Rising has graduated to the Friesen Press best seller section already which is a dream come true for Kathryn and I. Thanks to all of you who have invested in our story of hope.
I am now in the process of organizing a Canada wide speaking tour commencing this fall in St John's NFLD! We are very excited to be coordinating these events with the MFRC organizations across the country. If you would like to have Kathryn and I to your city or town to present please contact your local MFRC and ask them to contact us to arrange a visit. We will speak honestly and candidly about our journey as a family as we strove to manage my PTSD and of course I will sign books and have more for sale. Please remember that a portion of the sales will be donated to the Veterans Transition Program. CJL
Thanks to everyone who has ordered a copy of Warrior Rising! I received my first hardcopies yesterday and have to admit it was a surreal experience to finally hold it in my hand.. It made me feel very proud and humble at the same time. I am blessed to have a good portion of my health back again after a considerable struggle over the years. I really hope you all enjoy the read and then pass it on to someone who may need it. There is a rising number of veterans out there still suffering silently that need to find what it takes to step forward and ask for help. PTSD cannot be beaten single handed.... it takes a community!
I will be heading out across Canada this fall to speak about my book and journey accompanied by my wife Kathryn. Together we plan to tell our story so that others might identify with us and perhaps reach out for help. We look forward to meeting many of you during our tour. If you are interested in having us come to your area to speak please let me know and we will see what can be arranged
The official Freisen Press Publishing advertisement for Warrior Rising is now live! Please press the button on the first page to read the advertisement. Within the next 4 days there will be a "Buy" button added and activated. Thanks to you all for your patience and support over the past several months. CJL
Well it is done and off to the publisher and printer for this final stage.. I expect it will be available the first week of July for order through the Freisen Press Bookstore, Amazon.com as well as a few other well known online bookstores. The button at the bottom of the second page of this site will get you to the Freisen Press Bookstore. EReaders will also be available to search and download the title. The cross country book tour will get going this summer and I already have a few tentative dates. Stay tuned to this website as I will post when and where we will be. I hope you will come out to hear both Kathryn and I speak about our journey together. If you buy a book, please bring it as I would be happy to sign it! Cheers for now. CJL
Well the book is almost there! I have to state for the record that getting the manuscript to this point has been very cathartic and self gratifying; it is also a bit scary! The fact is that my book is a very personal look at what happened to me and what I did to battle PTSD down. It pulls no punches and reveals much of my personal life. I know deep down that when I tell that story to others it seems to help them come to grips with their own issues. In the end, if the sharing of my life helps other veterans and their families, then that is what I will do.... the book should be available later this month. Cheers CJL
Well here we are starting the month of May 2013... Not sure where the first part of this year has gone!! I remain very busy with preparations to launch my book which will now be in June. The manuscript is presently in what is called "layout" which is where they set it up electronically how it will look as a proper book from the front outside cover to the back outside cover. It has been a great experience and far less painful than I had expected. I would recommend to anyone considering doing some writing to give it a try as it has been very gratifying. I can only imagine what it will feel like when it is finally ready for order...
I will keep you appraised this month as the release date becomes clear and I will finally be able to connect the button on page 2 of this site to the Freisen Press and Amazon purchase sites. Cheers CJL
Hey everyone.. The manuscript is back from copyediting and it looks fabulous if I do say so myself... It is still on track for a mid May release where it will be available through Freisen Press and Amazon as well as all the EReaders. I will be doing a western launch when the book is available likely in June 2013. I will be doing a cross country speaking tour passing the message on how I was able to beat PTSD into submission. I'm looking forward to sharing all this with anyone interested.
I also just completed a video featuring my dog Murphy and I where I speak to the reasonsd I wrote this book. I hope you enjoy it
Hello all... Yes I am in Ottawa for three weeks to help launch the first ever Veterans Transition Program (VTP) in ON! We are very excited about this as we have a full curse of 8 veterans attending the maiden voyage. I am a grade of the program myself which I write about in my upcoming book "Warrior Rising". I now work as a veteran facilitator on the program and really enjoy seeing veterans get well again! If you are interested in this free to veterans program, check out VTNCANADA.ORG for more info. You could also ask me through this site if you prefer. Cheers CJL
The more I discover about PTSD among veterans, the more I discover how their families suffer along as well. It makes sense that when the person going off to war becomes profoundly impacted by what they see and experience, it only makes sense that loved ones would also feel the brundt of that when they retrun to home life. At present there is very little going on in this country regarding the impact of PTSD on families. This needs to change! The Vanier Institute of the Family, a
Partnership Between Family Care Professionals and the Canadian Forces has instigated a conference in Cornwall next month to examine the impact of PTSD upon the family and come up with a game plan as to how to best manage it. Excellent! CJL
